In the heart of the Oaklands Valley lies Melbourne's closest winery - Wildwood. There are probably few wineries in the world which can claim to have a large metropolis virtually on their boundary. Located just 4 km north of the Melbourne Airport, off the Tullamarine Freeway, the vineyard stands at an elevation of 132m, allowing for panoramic views of Port Phillip Bay and the Melbourne skyline.
Wildwood Vineyards experience a frost-free, cool, maritime climate. Lying in the rain shadow of Mount Macedon, the vineyard is treated to dry, sunny Autumn days, which allows for maximum development of fruit flavours at vintage. The Wildwood philosophy is simple - to produce the highest quality table wines from the outstanding fruit grown on the estate.
History records that
great wines were
made in this area
last century.
Viticulture was
re-established at
Wildwood in 1983 by
the Stott family.
Wine styles grown on
the estate include
Cabernet Sauvignon,
Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Shiraz,
Petit Verdot,
Chardonnay and Viognier. Extensive use of the highest quality French
oak compliment the fruit flavours, but never dominate the inherent fruit-fullness of the wine itself.
